Badar Khan is President, Upstream & Trading, with responsibility for growing Direct Energy's upstream gas, power generation, renewables, midstream, and trading businesses. Badar is a member of the Direct Energy Management Team and Centrica’s Senior Executive Group.
Prior to this appointment, Badar was the Managing Director of British Gas Business, one of the company’s UK businesses, from 2007-2009. During his time there, BGB acquired four companies, significantly improved customer satisfaction, achieved a “Top 50 Places to Work” recognition from the Financial Times for the 5th consecutive year, and tripled underlying profitability contributing approx. 10% of group profit by 2009.
Badar joined the company in 2003 as Vice President, responsible for US North, where he led Direct Energy’s entry into multiple new markets, and helped establish our company as one of the fastest growing retail energy companies in the United States, and was subsequently named Senior Vice President in 2005.
Before joining Direct Energy, Badar was an officer of an independent retail energy company in the US; and prior to that was a management consultant with KPMG London and Deloitte Consulting in Boston focusing on competitive energy markets in the UK and the US.
Badar has an engineering undergraduate degree from Brunel University in London, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Badar and his family now live in Houston.
