Badar Khan is President, Wholesale Energy, with responsibility for growing Direct Energy's upstream gas and power generation, midstream, renewables and trading businesses.
Badar Khan joined the organization in August 2003 as Vice President, responsible for US North, where he led Direct Energy’s entry into multiple new markets, and helped establish our company as one of the fastest growing retail energy companies in the United States, and was subsequently named Senior Vice President in 2005.
In 2007, he assumed an acquisition and growth role with our parent company Centrica based in the United Kingdom. As Managing Director for Centrica’s British Gas Business, Badar played a key leadership role in a number of energy and services acquisitions, operational, commercial and customer satisfaction improvements. During his tenure, he oversaw a tripling of BGB’s business profitability and its earning a UK award as ‘Top 50 Places to Work’ for the fifth consecutive year.
Badar returned to our North American operations in August 2009. Before joining our organization, Badar was an officer of an independent retail energy company in the US; a management consultant with KPMG London and Deloitte Consulting in Boston specializing in newly competitive retail energy markets in the UK and the US.
Badar has a BEng engineering degree from Brunel University in London, and an MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Badar is now based in Houston with his family.
