Badar Khan is the President and CEO of Direct Energy, the North American affiliate of Centrica plc, with overall responsibility for the company's operations across residential and business energy supply, home services, midstream, and power generation in North America.
Prior to his appointment as CEO in April 2013, Badar was the President, Upstream and Trading of Direct Energy. In this position, he oversaw a 60% growth in the company's oil and gas reserves and production, and a tripling of its wholesale trading margins. From 2007 to 2009, Badar worked in London for Direct Energy's parent company, Centrica, as the Managing Director of British Gas Business (BGB), a 2,500-person division, supplying electricity, gas and energy services to more than one million businesses. Under Badar's leadership, BGB experienced a period of rapid growth including a number of acquisitions, expansion into energy services, customer service improvements and a tripling of operating profit. Badar joined Direct Energy in 2003 as a Vice President, and was subsequently named Senior Vice President, responsible for the U.S. North, where he led the company's entry into multiple new markets and helped establish Direct Energy as one of the fastest growing retail energy companies in the United States.
Prior to joining Direct Energy and Centrica, Badar was a senior officer of a private retail energy company in the U.S. He also worked as a management consultant with Deloitte Consulting in Boston and KPMG London. Badar began his career with Jaguar Cars in the U.K.
Badar currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Partnership, one of the nation's most influential business organizations, representing the interests of the Houston region's enterprises. Badar holds an engineering undergraduate degree from Brunel University in London, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Badar, his wife Masu, and their two daughters reside in Houston.
