EVP HR & Communications

Janice Thomson is Executive Vice-President HR and Communications for Centrica’s North American operations. She is responsible for all aspects of human resources strategy and practice for the company’s North American business, focusing on human resource development and succession and the integration of new businesses. Additionally, Janice is accountable for the communications team responsible for media relations and employee communications and corporate responsibility across North America.

With extensive experience in the energy sector, broadcast, film and television industry, financial services, retail and wholesale business sectors, Janice is a mergers and acquisitions veteran who has successfully integrated and created merged cultures and operations for a number of diverse organizations.

Over the last six years with Direct Energy, she had roles where she has been responsible for HR, Communications, Health, Safety and Environment, and Corporate Marketing.

Prior to joining Direct Energy, she was Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Alliance Atlantis Communications, where she was responsible for the company’s worldwide human resources activities. Janice previously held human resources positions in a range of fields, including the financial industry with Manulife Financial and the wholesale and retail operations in the grocery industry with National Grocers, and the personnel placement services industry with Hunt Personnel.

She is a member of the Direct Energy Executive Committee and the Toronto Board of Trade. She is a Director and the Vice President on the Board of Raising the Roof, an organization dedicated to the prevention of homelessness in Canada. Janice is also a member of the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) and WXNWisdom Group, Canada's most influential female audience and the country's leading organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of executive-minded women in the workplace.

Janice received her undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario.
