How Central Heating Works

Natural Gas Forced-air

A natural gas forced-air furnace draws air inside a heat exchanger where it is warmed by burning natural gas. The resulting heat energy is transferred to room air, which is then blown by the fan into your duct system to heat your home.

A forced-air furnace is the most advantageous because it:

  • Provides heat quickly and easily, distributing warm air to all rooms in your home
  • Can centrally filter and humidify air, when equipped with the right accessories
  • Is a cost-efficient way to heat your home
  • Can easily accommodate the installation of central air conditioning

Replacing an older furnace with a new mid-efficiency or high-efficiency natural gas furnace offers substantial cost benefits, which can help you to save money when you heat your home. Learn more about furnaces from facts & tips.
