Why is professional installation so important?

A properly installed air conditioner helps to:

  • Ensure that comfort levels are met
  • Reduce ongoing service costs
  • Extend the life of the unit

Additionally, professional installers understand the nuances of how an air conditioner works, and can determine the best placement.  Here are two examples of what you should consider when determining the best placement for your air conditioner:

Outdoor Placement

Your outside air conditioner unit should be placed away from any windows and away from outdoor living areas like your deck (or your neighbour’s). The best place is in the front or side yard, by solid facing walls that don't have windows. Your local municipality may have by-laws for your area that affect placement and maximum sound levels.

Near Your Garden

Manufacturers generally agree that shrubs or flowers should not be any closer than 18 inches. Air conditioners need at least this much space to operate safely and efficiently. You may need to trim shrubs or transplant flowers from time-to-time to maintain this buffer zone.

Increase your total home comfort

It’s more economical—and convenient—to install central air conditioning at the same time that you install your new home heating system. Why? A newer furnace fan provides improved air circulation all year round, helping to save energy costs. Plus, the central air conditioner's Evaporator Coil is installed at the top of the furnace, and if done at a different date could increase your labour costs.
