Palace Pier—Toronto
The Palace Pier Condominium is a 47-storey building housing 433 luxury residences along western Toronto’s lakefront.
The Challenge
Palace Pier needed to update a 30-year-old mechanical system, while maximizing the comfort of its residents and minimizing energy consumption. They asked Direct Energy Business Services to help them identify opportunities and implement solutions to reduce energy consumption.
Our Solution
We analyzed and outlined a number of energy-saving measures for Palace Pier. These included a heating system update and implementing lighting upgrades and controls optimization. Lighting was updated with high-efficiency electronic ballasts that are cooler and last longer than their predecessors, while heating improvements integrated existing piping with modular, ultra-high-efficiency boilers.
Results
Palace Pier’s carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 961 tonnes annually, an amount equal to taking 195 cars off the road. Energy savings for the company will total $229,000 per year—allowing the condominium to recoup its investment in only eight years. Palace Pier is now a more environmentally friendly part of the beautiful waterfront it calls home.
