How will my company be billed under the MAAGIC/Direct Energy program?
Under the terms of the electric supply agreement, the participating Association member will be invoiced by the utility for their transmission and distribution charges, and separately by Direct Energy for the electricity generation charges.
Can a member who is already enrolled with another supplier participate in this program?
Yes, but Direct Energy will need to be notified that the contract should commence at a future date. A Direct Energy representative can facilitate this special request.
Can a member be under contract to two supply contracts at once?
Only if the electricity supply does not overlap. Members who are currently enrolled in a supply agreement with another company cannot get service from Direct Energy until their current agreement is terminated.
Can a member cancel their contract with Direct Energy at any time?
Yes, however, the electricity that was purchased on behalf of the member will be sold to the open market and any deficits will be invoiced to the customer.
Can a member add other accounts to an existing Direct Energy contract?
Additional accounts can be added for service by Direct Energy, but the price for the new accounts will be determined at the time of contract execution.
Can MAAGIC or Direct Energy guarantee that the contract price will be less than that of the utility in the future?
No, the utility’s future prices are not predetermined. There is no way to predict where utility prices will go during the term of the supply agreement.
Has the MAAGIC/Direct Energy Electric supply program provided any savings this summer to its enrolled members?
Yes, members have saved up to 20% on the generation portion of their utility bills, depending on their usage patterns and specific utility tariff rates.
What if my company has not yet established a historical usage pattern?
Members must have a historical usage pattern of a minimum of three months. Members who have not yet received their first utility invoice cannot participate in the MAAGIC/ Direct Energy electricity program.
What is Direct Energy’s credit policy for participation in the supply program?
Direct Energy uses an independent credit rating agency to assist in its credit approval process. To participate in the program, members with an unfavorable credit rating may be required to post a deposit equal to three months’ recent utility invoices. If such invoices indicate past due amounts, Direct Energy may require interested members to post a deposit, or may reject the customer.
When does the contract go into effect?
Direct Energy will begin supplying the member on the meter read date following the acceptance and processing of the enrollment request by the utility, usually within 45 days.
