Answers to Questions that ACE receives most often

Who may apply?

  • You must be a 'Direct Energy Home Services customer with a residential account with Enbridge Gas Distribution;
  • your Enbridge Gas Distribution account must be active and in good standing; and
  • you must be a Canadian Resident; and
  • you must be over 18 years of age and under 65 years of age to apply.

Single coverage is available and couple coverage is also available if two individuals within the same household wish to apply.

What optional coverage is available?

Children's Accidental Death coverage is available to children of insured Direct Energy customers who are unmarried, under the age of 20 or 25 if enrolled at an accredited school, college or university (as a full-time student) and dependant upon you for support and maintenance. Child means your natural child, foster child, stepchild, adopted child and any other child who is supported by the Direct Energy customer in a parent and child relationship. No age restrictions will apply to any Child incapable of self-sustaining employment by reason of mental or physical handicap and who is dependant upon you for support and maintenance.

How do I make a claim?

Step 1   You or your representative must contact ACE INA Life Insurance within 30 days of your covered loss at the number shown in your certificate of insurance.
     
Step 2   ACE INA Life Insurance will forward to you or your representative the instructions and appropriate claim form to complete.
     
Step 3   Upon receipt of all required claims documentation, ACE INA Life Insurance will assess the claim and notify you or your representative by return mail of any benefits under The Accident Protection Plan within 5 business days.

Is there any other important information I should know?

As with all insurance, there are exclusions and limitations for this coverage. Once enrolled, you will receive a Certificate of Insurance that will provide these details.

Will my premiums ever increase?

Once insured, your premiums will not increase due to your age or any changes in your health. Premiums may change by increasing or decreasing the amount of premium payable on a group basis.

What happens if I change my mind?

Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you are not completely satisfied with the coverage offered by this insurance, simply contact us at 1-800-968-9973 or fax us at 416-594-2835 or email us within 30 days of receiving your policy to have your coverage cancelled and any premiums you may have paid refunded. No questions asked.

Is this life insurance?

No, this is not life insurance. It is accidental personal injury insurance. The Accident Assistance Plan is a group personal injury plan that provides you with a cash lump sum for death due to an accident and benefits in the event of an accident causing permanent disability, loss of or loss of use of limbs and other valuable cash benefits. These are available whether you are injured in an accident at home, work, or while traveling anywhere in the world, 365 days a year subject to the exclusions detailed in the certificate of insurance.

Is there a waiting period or an elimination period if I have a claim?

There are no waiting periods or elimination periods to satisfy for claiming purposes. Your coverage is effective on the first of the month following ACE's receipt of your application. The actual effective date will be shown on the Schedule of Coverage that will be forwarded to you along with the Certificate of Insurance.

For Permanent, Total Disability claims you must be Permanently and Totally Disabled for at least 12 consecutive months.

How are premiums calculated?

Your premiums (the cost of insurance) are based on the type of coverage you have selected (single or couple). The monthly premiums will be charged directly to your Enbridge Gas Distribution account.

All applicable taxes are added to the premium at the time of billing.
