The Payment Protection Plan will provide coverage in the event of:

  • Involuntary Unemployment
  • Temporary Total Disability
  • Permanent Total Disability
  • Death
  • Critical Illness

Plan Benefits

The following table outlines the Payment Protection Plan’s benefits.†

We will pay a benefit if The benefit will be payment of Your benefit cannot exceed
you are under the age of 65 and you experience Involuntary Unemployment. your monthly Regular Charges** appearing on your Enbridge bill.
  • payment for more than a total of six (6) consecutive months; or
  • the date you close your Enbridge Gas Distribution account; or
  • the maximum monthly benefit of $500.00 per month.
you are under the age of 65 and suffer a Temporary Total Disability due to accident or sickness. your monthly Regular Charges appearing on your Enbridge bill.
  • payment for more than a total of six (6) consecutive months; or
  • the date you close your Enbridge Gas Distribution account; or
  • the maximum monthly benefit of $500.00 per month.
you become Permanently Totally Disabled before your 65th birthday as a direct result of an accident only. the principal owing on your Finance Plan Balance.*** the maximum total benefit of $20,000 per certificate.
your death occurs prior to your 65th birthday. the principal owing on your Finance Plan Balance.*** the maximum total benefit of $20,000 per certificate.
your monthly Regular Charges appearing on your Enbridge bill.
  • payment for more than the twelve (12) consecutive months, following your death; or
  • the date you close your Enbridge Gas Distribution account; or
  • the maximum monthly benefit of $500.00 per month.
you die as a result of an accident only, on or after your 65th birthday, but before age 70. the principal owing on your Finance Plan Balance.*** the maximum total benefit of $20,000 per certificate.
your monthly regular charges appearing on your Enbridge gas bill.
  • payment for more than the twelve (12) consecutive months, following your death; or
  • the date you close your Enbridge Gas Distribution account; or
  • the maximum monthly benefit of $500.00 per month.
If you are diagnosed by a licensed physician for the first time in your lifetime with a Covered Critical Illness more than 90 days after your Effective Date and before your 65th birthday your monthly regular charges appearing on your Enbridge gas bill.
  • payment for more than a total of six (6) consecutive months; or
  • the date your account is closed; or
  • the maximum monthly benefit of $500.00 per month.

** Regular Charges are defined as:

  • all natural gas related amounts payable to Enbridge Gas Distribution on your Rate 1 account either based on your equal billing plan amount or actual/estimated consumption; and
  • rental charges, Heating Protection Plan charges (if enrolled) and Cooling Protection Plan charges (if enrolled) payable to Direct Energy Inc.; and
  • Finance Plan installments payable to Direct Energy Inc
  • Regular Charges do not include amounts for repair or service work charged by either Direct Energy Services Inc. or Enbridge and any other items not expressly contemplated under the definition of Regular Charges

*** Finance Plan Balance is the amount owed to Direct Energy Services Inc. for financed merchandise on your Enbridge bill. This includes purchases that appear on your Enbridge Gas Distribution account with deferred payment feature as well as regular payment finance plans.
