Today is International Preserve the Ozone Day!
In 1995, the United Nations General Assembly established September 16 as International Preserve the Ozone Day to raise awareness on practices that protect the ozone layer at the global, regional, and national level.
In celebration of this holiday, try applying some of these eco-friendly tips to your day-to-day life to go green and minimize your impact on nature:
- Green Transportation – Carpool, walk, or bike it. To reduce your carbon footprint, try to decrease how often you use your car for transportation. If using your car is a must, consider carpooling! The fewer cars on the road, the less pollution in the atmosphere.
- Avoid products containing chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). When possible, don’t purchase items (like aerosols, sprays, and insulating material) that contain CFCs, as this compound has proven to be especially harmful to the ozone.
- Check for leaks. Have a professional check the air conditioning in your home and vehicle for leaks, and if any are present, get them repaired.
- Opt for energy saving light bulbs. Since CFL light bulbs and LED light bulbs consume much less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, using energy efficient options will help reduce pollution and save you money since you won’t have to replace bulbs nearly as often.
By taking steps like these, we can all work together to reduce our impact on the environment and preserve the ozone for the next generation!
