The windup and the pitch! Corpus Christi’s first Volunteer Citizen of the Year award program was launched over one of America’s favorite pastimes on August 30, 2015 at Whataburger Field. While partnering with the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A minor league affiliate of the Houston Astros, we invited 90 representatives from Corpus Christi’s nonprofit organizations to attend a line-drive event celebrating volunteerism in the Corpus Christi community.
JP Campione, Marketing Manager with CPL, threw a perfect first pitch to start the game and commemorate the launch of an annual initiative to honor a Corpus Christi hero.
With game day giveaways and CPL stress balls in hand, nearly 4,000 fans watched the Corpus Christi Hooks defeat the San Antonio Missions by the score of 2-1. Such a victory sets high hopes that Corpus Christi’s first ever Volunteer Citizen of the Year award will be a grand slam for the entire community and the nonprofit organization receiving a $5,000 donation in honor of the winner. This donation is a small piece to our big mission to recognize those who make a difference in the community that we serve.
