This past December, Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU 13) and Direct Energy announced a partnership to offer a discounted rate for residential electricity supply to Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) utility customers located in the Lancaster and Lebanon counties of Pennsylvania. The electricity program is an extension of IU 13’s Electricity Procurement Program currently provided to school districts in the two-county area. As part of this partnership for residents, a percentage of revenue from the program was to be reinvested to support the research, development, and implementation of education initiatives.
Since the launch, Direct Energy and IU 13’s electricity program has been well received by residents, and it has successfully secured more than 3,000 new customers. Based on that success, the program has now been expanded to include all PPL and MetEd utility customers throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
For those that are not aware, IU 13 is a service agency that strives to improve student learning by providing both direct educational services and educational support services for 22 of Lancaster and Lebanon counties’ public school districts, as well as for adult education students, nonpublic schools, preschoolers and their families. IU 13 recognizes the needs of schools and importance of implementing programs to meet those needs, with a core compelling purpose of improving student learning.
The expansion of this electricity program is a win-win for its communities, since not only do residents receive a lower electricity rate, but a percentage of the revenue from the program supports local schools. Learn more by visiting the IU3 website or by calling 1-877-330-8250.
