Exploring Three Top Attractions in Your City: Part 2 – Calgary, Alberta

Direct Energy loves all our customers across our wide service area, so we decided to take a gander at many of the places you live! With each stop in our Exploring Three Top Attractions in Your City series, we’ll highlight some of best things to do and see in many of the major locales we provide service. It’s a way for us to get to know your city and inform anyone else who may be interested in visiting.

Nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, Calgary is the perfect place for skiing and hiking. And while there is plenty of hiking and skiing to do in the expanses of nature around the city, Calgary offers much more within its proper confines, including a range of museums, parks, and other attractions. The next time you visit the “Great White North,” take care to visit these top three attractions as you explore the majesty of Calgary, Alberta.

The glorious skyline of Calgary, Alberta

1) Heritage Park

Go back in time to the days of the Wild West when you visit Calgary’s living-history village at Heritage Park. Visitors can explore a fur trading post, a ranch, and a historic village still functioning with costumed staff. In addition, you can try out various types of historic transportation like a steam train, horse-drawn wagon, or paddle-wheeler boat. Heritage Park is a great place for adults as well as kids.

2) Calgary Tower

The perfect spot for a 360-degree view of Calgary (as long as you’re not afraid of heights).

Take in the breathtaking sights while enjoying a meal at the revolving restaurant at Calgary Tower. Up until 1984, Calgary Tower was the tallest building in Calgary, but while that accomplishment has been superseded, it still provides excellent views over the city that extend even out to the mountains. The views are nice at any time of the day, though they are particularly beautiful at sunset or dusk.

3) Calgary Stampede

You can check out this old-school threshing machine and many other vintage farming implements at the Calgary Stampede.

Known to other Canadians as a “cowboy town”, Calgary celebrates its cowboy roots by holding their world famous Calgary Stampede every July. From horse races and concerts to cowboy style pancake breakfasts, this enormous 10-day festival has plenty to offer even if you don’t own a pair of boots.

Though these three attractions top my list, I know there is so much more to do in and around the city! If you live in Calgary, and we missed one of your favorite top attractions, please let us know in the comments – we want to hear from you!
