With the school year coming to an end and summer in full swing, you may be preparing for a summer vacation. When packing up the family, don’t forget some of these tips for preparing your home and cutting energy costs while you’re out of town:
- Turn down your water heater.
- Set your thermostat, or turn it completely off. If you live in a hot climate, set your thermostat to power on when the interior of your house reaches 85 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Unplug everything you’re not using, such as appliances, televisions, computers and lamps.
- Stop the newspaper. If you receive a daily newspaper, put your delivery on hold while you’re away.
