Oh sweet summer, we’re so glad that you’re here! As the weather heats up, many families hit the road and start their vacation. Just because you’re not at home doesn’t mean you can’t save energy. In fact, there are many ways to be green and save money during your summer travels.
- If you’re road tripping, pack reusable water bottles. Then you can fill up along the way AND use the same bottle throughout your trip.
- If you have to fly, go nonstop during the day to minimize your carbon footprint.
- Renting a car? Choose the smallest vehicle or a hybrid, if offered. The larger the car, the more gas money you’ll spend.
- Sightsee by foot or bike. You’ll get a new perspective of the place you’re visiting, get some exercise, AND reduce your use.
There are plenty of other ways to reduce your travel energy use—recycle, eat local and save paper by only taking the travel brochures and maps you need! How do you save energy when you travel? Share your experiences with us on Facebook and Twitter!
