Customer Assistance and Relief for Energy bills (CARE)

If you are a Direct Energy customer and need help paying your electricity bill, visit one of our CARE agency partners below. You can also call 2-1-1 or visit 211texas.org for agency assistance near you.

Although each agency's requirements are different, you may have to show proof of need, like your last electricity bill and a disconnection notice. If needed, you can access your bill in your online account or request a copy of your disconnection notice by calling 1-888-305-3828.

How it works:

1. Visit one of the CARE agencies listed on this page or call 2-1-1. While 2-1-1 Texas does not administer funds directly, they can connect you with agency partners in your area.
2. Call the agency in your area for qualifications, appointment availability and information about the application process. If you have been issued a disconnection notice, inform the agency to see if they can expedite the process.
3. If you qualify, it may take up to 8 weeks to receive financial assistance.
4. Assistance is issued at the discretion of our agency partners to eligible customers, and it may not cover your entire electricity bill.
