To celebrate National Reading Day on Monday, January 23, 2017, Direct Energy presented a donation for $16,000 and more than 150 books to the Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
For the presentation, several hospital staff members, Direct Energy employees and local dignitaries were on hand. One of which was the Illinois State Librarian and Secretary of State Jesse White. He gave remarks on the importance of reading in a young child’s life.
Also in attendance were City of Chicago Alderman 2nd Ward Brain Hopkins, Representative Kelly Burke, Senator John Mulroe and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
Dennis Donovan, Direct Energy Head of Customer Operations, based in the Buffalo Grove office, spoke on Direct Energy’s involvement with the hospital and the company’s continued dedication to helping the lives of all.
The books being donated were collected from the company’s office near Chicago in Buffalo Grove that has more than 300 employees.
Funds were generated from two campaigns – the DE in Motion Miracle Challenge and the HWA Campaign. Through he annual DE in Motion Miracle Challenge, that is held in each Direct Energy office, for every mile an employee walks, runs, bikes, jogs or even swims, Direct Energy makes a donation to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Likewise for the HWA Campaign, for every Direct Energy Protection Plan sale or renewal in one month, Direct Energy also makes a donation to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
