As part of our ongoing efforts to provide a positive impact in the communities where we provide service, Direct Energy recently presented a donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Mike Ahearne from Direct Energy Home Services Canada and Phil Owens from Airtron Canada delivered a cheque for $21,192 to Sian Gibson of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation during an event at the Direct Energy office in Markham, Ontario on January 14th, 2014.
This donation is the result of the “DE in Motion” campaign from October 2013. That month-long event encouraged team members across Direct Energy to participate in a walking challenge to help promote health and wellness. DE Home Services Canada and Airtron Canada decided to put their efforts towards benefiting the thousands of women, men, and children who have been affected by breast cancer.
Thus, in honor of October being “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Direct Energy Home Services and Airtron Canada banded together to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and for every mile we walked, Direct Energy would donate money to support breast cancer research and awareness.
The result of these efforts? Nearly 300 employees combined to take a total of 76,996,400 steps during the month of October for an average of 265,504 per person.
Thus, along with the $100,000 raised by DE Home Services in the United States (the Susan G Komen Foundation has a partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation), Direct Energy raised more than $120,000 to help two fine organization in their quests to defeat breast cancer.
Thanks to all the Direct Energy employees for making such a donation possible and to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for all of your hard work in fighting this terrible disease, while also improving the lives of those affected.
