Life Hacks: What Not to Buy in April

People enjoy life hacks for several reasons, but we especially like ones that help us save money. As it turns out, websites like DealNews and Lifehacker provide great money-saving life hacks and tips on a regular basis. In particular, they’ve created a yearly timeline listing out the best times to purchase certain items. While that has been helpful, they’ve also collected specific items you shouldn’t purchase in a given month. Thus, here’s the April installment of our monthly series on what NOT to buy!

While the warm spring weather of April is nice, don’t get caught up in the excitement of buying things for the outdoors. Most outdoor items and clothing are not priced to sell this month and consumers should expect to wait until later to see discounts. With that, here are the main items that should not be purchased during the month of April as they are least likely to be discounted this month.

Baby Items. Waiting till April to purchase baby items will cost you extra money. Though it’s already passed, buying baby items earlier in the year during the months of January or February will lend you much better deals.

Refrigerators and Kitchen Appliances. New refrigerator and kitchen appliance models come out in June so if purchasing any of these items this month and you will miss out on future deals in the upcoming months. To find the best deals, wait until May or more specifically for Memorial Day sales to find great deals on last year’s models, which is when retailers discount those items to make room for the new models.

Spring Wedding Gowns. The spring is one of the most popular times of the year for weddings. Also the new spring lines for wedding gowns come out between February and April thereby making April one of the most expensive months to purchase a spring bridal gown. The best time to purchase a spring gown is in the fall after the spring and summer seasons are over. If you are in need of a wedding gown for the spring then look at last year’s fall line of gowns that can come with discounts of up to 20-30%. The fabric may be a bit heavier, but cosmetically there shouldn’t be too much of a difference.

Tennis and Golf Items. There’s a direct correlation between nice weather and people being outside and retailers know this. So the next few months are not the best times to be purchasing spring sports apparel or accessories. To find the best deals, wait until the fall months around October and November for deals on spring and summer athletic gear.
