Take Brian Diamond as an example. Earlier this year, Direct Energy recognized Brian as the 2015 Alberta Volunteer Citizen of the Year for his dedication to improve the lives of hundreds of low-income clients who rely on Edmonton Meals on Wheels for meals. He tirelessly dedicates thousands of volunteer hours each year by serving as a meal delivery driver five times a week.  He even goes the extra mile by providing close attention and care to clients demonstrating a change in health or behavior. This service proves to be extremely important, as in some cases, a visit with Brian may be the only social interaction a client has in a day.

As a way to honor his contribution, Direct Energy made a $5,000 donation to support Edmonton Meal on Wheels’ meal subsidy program.

The same recognition and impact could be bestowed upon someone and an organization you know.

This year, we’ve recognized other volunteers like Brian in fivecities: Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Harrisburg, PA; Central Illinois; and Syracuse, NY. We need your help to keep our momentum going in 10 other cities across North America.

Nominations are currently open in the following cities:

  • Capital Region New York – Nomination open until Aug. 14
  • Columbus, OH – Nomination open until Aug. Sept. 3

Nominations will soon open in this summer and fall in Abilene, TX; Corpus Christi, TX; McAllen, TX; Cleveland, OH; Dayton, OH; and Hartford, CT.

The volunteer spirit is in everyone, and we’re looking to you to help distinguish who will be our Volunteer Citizen of the Year in your community.  Visit to learn about the nomination period in your community and nominate a deserving individual.
