Lubbock will become deregulated on March 4, 2024. Starting on Friday, January 5, 2024, residents in Lubbock will be able to begin selecting their new electricity provider. If you do not choose a new provider during the presale period, you will receive service from one of the default retail electricity providers.

Lubbock Power & Light will be responsible for transporting and delivering electricity to your home or business and for maintaining your electrical equipment. If you experience a power outage, see a fallen pole or power line, or have an issue with your electric meter, you will contact them to resolve the issue.

The retail electricity provider (REP) you choose will be responsible for providing customer service and monthly billing to your home or business. Once enrolled, you'll receive your bill directly from your REP and speak with them to process payments and answer your electricity billing and account questions. If you move while enrolled in a plan, your REP will transfer your service to your new address, provided you're in an area they serve.

No. When you choose an electricity plan, we'll handle the switch with no interruptions.

Your electricity bill will come directly from us. You can enroll in Paperless Billing to receive your bill via email, or you can choose to receive it via USPS. When you're ready to pay your bill, we have many easy ways, from the Direct Energy App to Mobile Wallet to other online, phone and in-person options.

The price includes your energy charge per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity as well as delivery charges from Lubbock Power & Light for transmitting and delivering the electricity to your home. You may also see a Base Charge included in some plan prices. Some of these charges are flat costs, while some are calculated based on kWh used during the billing cycle. When you sign up for an electricity plan, you can choose the day you start service. You will usually be able to start service within seven business days.

You can sign up by clicking "SELECT PLAN" on the electricity plan you wish to sign up for. You can search for available plans by your zip code only, but you can also include the full service address. If you're moving to a new address, use the address of your new home to fill out your service address information. If you're switching from another electricity provider, we'll let them know about your switch.

Every night from 9 p.m. to 8:59 a.m., any electricity you use is free! You only pay for the electricity you use from 9 a.m. to 8:59 p.m. and you can use as much electricity as you want all night long. If you run your dishwasher or do laundry at night, have parties or binge watch your favorite shows, this plan is for you!
