Notice – Certain customers may be eligible to apply for the following designations based on the nature of the business:

  • Critical Load Public Safety Customer: A non-residential customer for whom electric service is considered crucial for the protection or maintenance of public safety, including but not limited to hospitals, police stations, fire stations, and critical water and wastewater facilities.
  • Critical Load Industrial Customer: An industrial customer for whom an interruption or suspension of electric service would create a dangerous or life-threatening condition on the retail customer's premises.

You can apply for the applicable designation, which affords certain protections. Please contact Direct Energy for more information. Critical Load Public Safety Customer and Critical Load Industrial Customer designations require you to complete an application with your TDU:

Please note that these statuses do not guarantee an uninterrupted, regular, or continuous power supply. If electricity is a necessity, the customer must make arrangements for on-site back-up capabilities or other alternatives in the event of loss of electric service.

We provide energy supply to small businesses of all types, including government entities, schools, commercial real estate, healthcare, manufacturers, retail, and food and beverage.

To determine whether you're a small business, we use a general building size guideline of 10,000 square feet or less. We generally classify large businesses or enterprises as those that have a building size of more than 10,000 square feet.

No. There is no need for any physical modifications to your facility or meter to receive electricity/natural gas supply from us. Delivery of your electricity/natural gas will continue through the same transmission and distribution system owned and operated by your local utility.

You should not lose service if you switch to service with us from your utility or another supplier. Direct Energy Business works closely with your local utility or supplier to coordinate the date you begin service with us and when service ends with your utility or supplier. This ensures that you have no disruption in service as you move from one service provider to another.
