No. As long as the electricity account is in your name, you typically don’t need landlord involvement to start service at your address.
In Texas, your service can start as soon as the same day, if you complete enrollment before the cutoff at 6 p.m.1 Requests processed after the cutoff will be scheduled for the next business day.
With the Direct Energy 90 Day Satisfaction Guarantee, if your plan isn’t the right fit, you can change to a different Direct Energy plan within the first 90 days — with no early termination fees.2
Early cancellation terms vary depending on the plan and market. You’ll be able to review all terms before enrolling, but you can contact us for additional information on early termination fees.

For move-ins (including transfer of service), requests processed after 6 p.m. Central Time will be connected the next business day. For switches, requests processed after 5 p.m. Central Time will be connected the next business day. Permit and enrollment requirements must be met before a request can be processed (examples can be found here). Additional charges may apply based upon your TDSP.
