If your solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs, the extra electricity (or surplus energy) is delivered to the grid.

Yes. For this plan you'll need a meter that measures the amount of electricity flowing in and out of your home, and that gets configured by your utility. They may charge for this meter, and that cost would be passed on to you on your Direct Energy bill.

There's no limit on how many bill credits you can earn from the excess energy your solar panels produce.

Yes, provided you remain with Direct Energy. When you switch plans, any buyback credit balance will first be applied to any outstanding amounts owed under the previous plan. Any remaining credit balance amounts will be carried forward to the new plan.

1 The credit is exclusive of any monthly base charge, applicable taxes and fees, or other charges. Credits for extra energy are uncapped. The credit per kWh for the extra energy you send to the grid will be the same as the kWh energy rate we charge for the plan. It may take up to 3 billing cycles after receiving Permission to Operate (PTO) from your utility to begin receiving credits. To receive bill credits, the customer must have solar panels at the utility service address and an active interconnection agreement with the utility (or TDSP). Customer must have a meter installed and configured by their TDSP that measures the inflow and outflow of electricity to and from their home.

2 The only circumstance in which your actual price can change is to reflect changes in Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) Delivery Charges, law or regulatory charges allowed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
