An Electricity Facts Label (EFL) is required by the Public Utility Commission of Texas as a means of providing the details of electricity plans sold in the state. On an EFL, you'll find the term length, electricity price, whether there is an early termination fee, the rate type and other vital plan information.
On each plan's EFL, you will see a chart that lists the average price for usage of 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of usage. The best way to use this chart is to compare your average usage from previous bills to the amounts listed in the chart.
The average rates inside the chart include your energy charge, charges from your local Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) to cover the cost of delivering electricity to your home and charges to cover the cost of providing service. The prices listed inside the chart account for both per-kWh charges and fixed monthly charges, which means the more you use, the less your average rate will be.
The Public Utility Commission enforces several rules to protect Texas electricity customers, which are outlined in Your Rights as a Customer (YRAC). This document details the rights you have as an electricity customer with any provider in Texas.
The Terms of Service outlines the full terms of a contract agreement with Direct Energy. It gives more detailed information on billing, payment, plan options and other considerations. The terms of service document is the same for all plans of the same rate type with Direct Energy. In other words, you'll see one document for all fixed-rate plans and another for all variable-rate plans.
Save your energy-gobbling activities for the weekend to take even greater advantage of your free electricity weekends!
From 6 p.m. on Fridays to 11:59 p.m. on Sundays, any energy you use is completely free! That means you'll only pay for the energy you use five days of the week, and you can use as much energy as you want all weekend long. If you meal prep, do chores or host parties on the weekends, this plan is perfect for you!
This plan is a fixed-rate plan. Fixed-rate plans offer a stable energy price that will stay the same for the term length of your plan, protecting you from possible price spikes.
The rate includes your energy price per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which stays the same for the length of your plan contract. The rate also includes charges that help deliver energy to your home, such as the base charge and delivery charges from your Transmission and Distribution Utility. Some of these charges are fixed and others depend on your usage. You can find your energy price per kWh and other charges in your EFL.
When you enroll on a fixed-rate plan, your energy charge listed underneath the Electricity Facts Label chart stays the same for the term length of the plan.
The TDU charges can change, so that component of the total price may not always remain the same.
When you sign up for an electricity plan, you'll be able to choose the day you start service. You will usually be able to start service within seven business days.
You can sign up by clicking the "Select Plan" button above. If you're moving to a new address, just use the address of your new home to fill out your service address information. If you're switching from another electricity provider, we'll them know about your switch.
*Offer valid for new residential customers in Texas only. Provisioned smart meter required. Free power begins on Fridays at 6:00 PM and ends Sunday at 11:59 PM. Terms and Conditions Apply.
